The guest room is now a second office, and it gets this lovely morning sun, and the whole room is bright and creative and serene. Quite a change from the other office, which feels kind of like a cave in the morning. And there’s this:

They weren’t allowed in the other office because Oliver chews on power cords. In my office, though, the only things he can get into are right at my feet, and he is easily diverted. Plus, with the futon to keep him happy, he rarely even attempts to go under my desk for a little snack. So the two of them spend much of the day in here with me, which makes me immensely happy.
I realized the other day that this is the first time I’ve actually had an office all to myself. All through college, I had my desk in my bedroom, and then Jesse and I got married right out of college and always shared an office. Now we each have our own space, and while sharing an office wasn’t all that bad (until we just got too much stuff to cram into one room), it’s quite nice to have a space of one’s own. The bookshelves have all my favorite books on them. If I’d like to redecorate and make the room really girly, I could. Of course, money is the deciding factor now…fortunately I like the decor of my office as is for now.
I’ve been out of town and have things to say but need to get a few things done first. So, more later…

Oh, your descriptions make the room sound delightful. I can’t wait to see it!
I would love to have a better office. The only place I have to work is in my bedroom, which is distracting and just not conducive to getting real work done. It takes me days to revise a few pages now. But I guess I might be busy. Hope you are well. I’m ready to read over your work and be jealous whenever you let me.
I will take you up on that if you don’t mind–I am writing a short story and have not written a short story in…oh, let’s say five years. I need help! When I have a draft, I will send it to you, and then you can tell me to go back to nonfiction where I belong.
Oh, how wonderful. The sunlight is lovely. As Ms. Wolf said, every woman needs that room of her own. I guess you technically share your new office with cats, but I think anywhere a cat likes to hang out is a good place to be!
You’re absolutely right–any room is improved by an adorable sleeping cat.
