Caffeine

So on Monday I made another coffee drink. Only this time I guess I made the coffee too strong. Since I don’t drink hot coffee, I don’t really know how strong I’m making it. My coffee maker is small, too, so the instructions on the back of the bag of ground coffee are less than helpful. I tend to guess. Well, I made a batch Sunday night so I’d have the ice cubes for Monday, and I suppose I guessed wrong because after I drank a tall glass of coffee milkshake, I was practically bouncing off the walls.

At first, it was great. I got a ton written. But after a few hours of that, I was just feeling kind of queasy and tired (but without the ability to rest). I thought lunch would help. It didn’t. I thought drinking a glass of milk and lying down would help. It didn’t. I had a routine doctor’s appointment that afternoon, and thankfully my blood pressure was normal, but I impressed the nurse with my pulse.

I literally felt wired until 6:00 that evening. Not sure that’s even possible, but I swear it’s the truth.

Yesterday, I had zero caffeine and passed out on my futon around 3:00 p.m. Slept a good hour later than I usually do this morning.

So, today I’m going to try and find the happy medium. I’d like to not feel like my internal organs are on spin cycle, and I’d like to stay awake the whole day. Here goes nothing…

For regular hot coffee, I normally do 1.5 scoops (about teaspoon size) per cup of water (and I mean the cup measure on the coffee maker itself, not an actual cup). For iced coffee I would do maybe 2 and no more than 2.5 scoops per cup. Good luck!

    Erin, hello!

Your coffee kick has some affinities to Balzac’s coffee kick!

I really, really love Cuban coffee. The first time I had it, I thought it was so great, I had a second one right away. Yeah, that set my pulse racing at an impressive rate. With caffeine in everything from coffee to tea to soda, who the heck needs anything like cocaine??

Oh no, Juan, this doesn’t bode well for me: “Coffee only makes boring people even more boring.” :)

S: I don’t know if I’ve tried Cuban coffee, but I feel that now I must. You know what I realized yesterday? It has been four years since I’ve had a good Cuban sandwich. Ah, some days I really miss Florida.
