Wildlife

So, Saturday morning I was leaving a voice message for Jessica and I sat down on the futon in my office and happened to glance over at the window, where I saw a SNAKE looking in! I immediately began to scream into the phone, “There’s a snake! There’s a snake! There’s a snake! Gah! A snake at my window!” I managed to hang up the phone, and Jesse came in to investigate why I was making so much noise.

The snake was draped on one of the bushes outside the office window and was stretching over for the sole purpose of looking in my window. At first, I thought that evidenced poor manners, but now I believe the snake simply wanted to be our pet. He was lovingly looking in, wishing he could live with us and be our snake-child. Then Gracie jumped onto the windowsill to see what the fuss was about, and the snake took off so fast we couldn’t see where he’d gone. (Gracie was clueless.) We kept staring and eventually saw him slink off. He seemed disappointed.

I called Jessica’s phone back to apologize and explain my previous message.

I did snag two pics before Gracie scared Snake away. He’s kind of cute, isn’t he?

  1. That’s super creepy.

  5. I don’t generally think snakes are cute, but he does have that pitiful look on his face. “Please, um, let me in… or Are YOU my mother?”

  8. It’s only cute because it’s separated from you by glass and screen!

  10. Hahaha, you guys crack me up! Sara: not sure exactly how big he was. Guessing, three or four feet long? Ish? Michael: You’re a hoot. I’m sure if he finds his way in, it will be a bad day for him, as Gracie and Oliver would LOVE a snake-brother (to torment and kill). And Jesse: YES, that is his true name!

  11. Oh, and Yana, your reasoning is quite sound. Snakes are much cuter when separated by glass! I very much enjoy visits to our local serpentarium because of this fact.

  12. How cool! Good photos! I like snakes, they eat rats and mice.

  13. I have chipmunks that used to hit my bay window in the mornings and afternoons. I’m not sure why I think that is important enough to type.

  14. I have to disagree with the consensus here. He is adorable!!! Now I’m not saying that I enjoy snakes in my house, and I can speak from experience. But they are still cute even when hey are potential menaces. Oh! Your pictures were great. he does have a really forlorn look on his little snake face. If it weren’t for the cats, you could be his snake mom. If I were a snake I’d definitely consider moving in. :)
