Rainy Days

Here are the days: it’s raining constantly, the sky a medium gray since Monday morning, and my hair is doing its best rainy-day Pomeranian impression. Oliver sits in his chair, and I carry him—and the chair—from room to room so he can be near me. This is mostly for my benefit, though he does seem to enjoy the company. He managed to chew off the string attaching the cone today while I was gone. The cone remained in place, but the string was on the floor, noticeably shorter. He has returned to some old habits, acting hungrier with each meal, jumping on the counters to look for scraps or dishes to lick. I still feel a bit zombie-like. Took a nap yesterday, but the phone rang shortly after my thoughts had quieted enough to let me sleep. I began printing coupons off the Internet yesterday and my computer freaked out and printed about a dozen seventy-five-cents-off coupons for something called Wacky Mac, which appears to be bagged dried pasta, so I’m not sure what’s so wacky about it. And today, Jesse and I made our hotel reservations for DC at the end of the month. We got such a good deal on a hotel in Alexandria that I keep waiting to be notified that it was all a mistake. Or, to realize once we actually see the hotel that the deal wasn’t quite so sweet. Either way, I don’t care. We haven’t taken a vacation just the two of us in far too long, so we will take whatever hotel we get.

Yes, we wanted to take a trip for our five-year anniversary, and we were originally planning to go to Seattle, but the budget just wouldn’t accommodate that! But, DC is just six hours away, so it’s no big deal to drive, and we have been assured there are many free things (museums and so forth) to do and see. So, we are getting an anniversary trip after all. Yay!
