This morning, Becki left with a friend to explore the Haight and give me some time to rest and write (being tour guide is tiring!). Her friend just moved to the city in the last month, and I had suggested the Haight because I knew Becki had wanted to see it, and I didn’t mind missing it this go around.

However, I later found out that neither of them have been to the Haight.

So…I am wondering what her friend thinks of Becki’s crazy sister-in-law whose suggestion for spending a Saturday morning catching up with an old friend was to explore the Haight.

If you’re not familiar with the Haight, well imagine everything crazy and weird you’ve ever heard about San Francisco, thrown in a heavy dose of hippie culture, and permeate that with a lingering smell of incense and marijuana…and that’s the Haight.

Here are some pictures from when Jesse and I went:

I think the Haight is fun. Where else are you going to find a store selling taxidermied squirrels dressed in tiny suits and posed with doll furniture?

I just hope Becki’s friend has a sense of humor.

Note to self: Do NOT watch a zombie movie at Warren and Sharon’s and then walk home in the dark. Especially if it’s windy. Believe it or not, but wind chimes can be incredible creepy. And if it’s trash day the next day, the trash cans will creak and bump in the wind and even though Jesse’s walking with you and he’s got a flashlight, you’ll start to walk faster and faster and then will start to jog, even though he’s laughing, because rustling tree leaves and creaking trash cans and tinkling wind chimes will all sound ominous and terrifying after watching a scary movie and the trees bending in the wind will look like zombies no matter how much you tell yourself that zombies don’t exist. It’s just not a good idea.

When you’re having a yard sale and someone tries to give you a check and your instincts are telling you “No checks! Cash only!” you should listen to them. No matter how sweet the little old lady looks. No matter how long she talks to your husband about ancient stringed instruments, or how she tells you where she (supposedly) works, or if she puts a (supposed) phone number on the check. Kudos on taking the check to her bank instead of yours, therefore avoiding the NSF fee, but really. Next time, listen to the little voices, no matter how cynical they make you feel.
